Our Story

Our friend, Chad Welch, was diagnosed with Acute Mylogenous Leukemia on April 26th, 2005. He endured two separate relapses and two full stem cell transplants during his 26-month long fight. Chad lost his courageous battle with cancer on June 24, 2007. Team Chad was inspired by Chad’s friends and family to help “Continue Chad’s Fight against Leukemia.”

While undergoing treatment, Chad often asked his family and friends “How do people get sick when they don’t have families to support them? Or what if they don’t have insurance?”  Since 2007, Team Chad has been providing essential support to cancer patients and their families, who suffer financial hardship during treatment.  Our mission is to provide the same access to care for all cancer patients, regardless of financial or personal hardships.

Who Benefits

For the last 16 years, we have given away $2,053,762 to charities across Tennessee. These charities provide financial assistance to patients in need, deliver healthy meals and offer counseling services.

“Nashville General Hospital Foundation has been the grateful recipient of Team Chad support for our hospital’s oncology patients for many years. This latest gift of the patient transportation van is the very essence of Team Chad’s collaboration with us in ensuring that our most challenged patients have reliable and safe transportation for critical services.”
-Woods Wellborn, Board Chair.,
Nashville General Hospital Foundation

Nashville General Foundation generates resources to support patients, families, staff and communities served by Nashville General Hospital (NGH). Their Food Pharmacy was started with seed money from Team Chad. This program provides no cost fresh produce and shelf stable foods for any NGH patients or neighbors identified with food insecurity.
